This is a biased look at Rugby (from a Gamma point of view...hence the fuschia) and I make no apologies for that. Go The Wallabies! Go The Brumbies!...and ouch...Stephen Larkham...

Another Totally Trivial Post...What's Your 'Strut Song'?

March 30th 2007 07:29
...and that makes two.

I am in such a frivolous mood...and I have a promise I want to reap.....

Anyway.

Was over at John Doe's place earlier, his new post on April releases and yayyy...'Hawaii Five-0' has been released and I'm chuffed because I love this show and I love love love the theme for it.

So much so that....and this is really and I mean really sad....I consider it my Strut Song.

That's S-T-R-U-T.

You know....Strut Song?
The song/music playing in your mind when you need some grrr in your...um....integrity?

This is not to be confused with theme song.....that's just.....naff.

And what do you mean so are Strut Songs....

Dayum sugah. Don't be shy now...Spill a little.

What's your Strut Song?

Thanks for the nod DuskDevi,

Papa was A Rolling Stone by The Temptations which has featured earlier as the song to get it on is a mighty strut tune.....

Butto give an original answer I will go for Superfly by Curtis Mayfield....

Dusk ...

I'll always go for Bruce Springsteen's Hoooooooowwwwwwllll ... in Born to Run ... every time ... It's gutteral ... it's primal .. it's raw ... it's savage ... and it's gravelly ... (and blokes with gravelly voices who sing sensual blokey ballads? ... Well, they just do it for me every time ...

It's got parallel's to Roy Orbison's GRRRowllll ... (It just lasts a bit lot longer and goes on and on and on ... and there's something about holding it for that long ... (a note ... okay? ...

It's always been such a sexual song to me, the way it winds up and up and up and up ... and then just explodes releases ...

Okay ... stopping now ... Wendi will probably read this and the girl in the song Bruce called Wendy(i) ...

Which I find quite amazing in terms of what he wrote about Wendy:

Wendy let me in
I want to be your friend
I want to share your dreams and visions ... (I won't go any further ... the follow up lines are too sensual and sexual and Wendi will imagine coyotes outside her window or in her bed under the sheets ... or something sick and perverse like that ... *

You win ...

I will repost my poetry okay? ...

Now that I think about it... I may just have my son burn me a c.d. with every single one of these songs on it!! I'm gonna have him title it "Orble Delights at Dusk"

Listened to "Born to Run" for the first time this morning. I mean, I've heard it, but I've never listened to it.

Whoah.

Seriously... I'm burning a c.d.

Hi Dusk--

Strut song? Toss up between Al Green's "Still in love with you" or Red Hot Chili Peppers' "If you have to ask"..depends on the "strut mood".
Good post.

"Evidence" by Faith No More.

It is impossible to not feel suave, smooth, groovy and sexy listening to that song.

But for GRR factor, "Give It Away" by the RHCP.

Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Cult of Personality - Living Colour

But really I could go on and on and on.

ABBA
Led Zeppelin
The Doors
Janis Joplin

David,

I absolutely LOVE Springsteen. Courtesy of having older siblings. My English teacher in Year 10 actually had us "study" Born To Run - what a brilliant song.

Hello Mrs M....and no! Of course you can have more than one....

Strut Songs are very mood dependant (as D Armenta said).

'Relax'....this song came out when I was in my teens and I'm sure we all thought it was about something else other than what it suggest....but yes, I can hear the music and it is a Strut Song.

AND....yes The Doors!!!!!

Another Strut Song for me is 'Hello I Love You'....I get all giggly at this line..."...pluck this dusky jewel..." ONLY because it was once sung to me, for me and er...no, not by Jim...

Otherwise 'Break On Through' (even though I don't agree with the real meaning of it).

Thanks for coming by Mrs M.

much warmth

Hmmmm, can I name more than one?

Stayin' Alive by the BeeGees, Psychadelic Voodoo Chile (slightly revisted), Purple Haze and All Along The Watchtower (originally by Bob Dylan I know) by Jimi Hendrix, Like A Rolling Stone (the version where he yells at the crowd) by Bob Dylan, Excuse Me Mr by Ben Harper and the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky.

Finally!!!!!!!

I have been waiting for someone to say 'Stayin Alive'!!

...and I am so happy it's you JZ!

This has to be the Original Strut Song!

Oh yeah with 'Purple Haze'....and for me? Classically?
It's always the 9th Symphony by Ludwig...a pure ode to joy...

Good to see you buddy and yes...we would be very interested in how you two met...

Hi Dusk

I'm just curious about what the meaning is behind The Doors song that you talked about....

Otherwise 'Break On Through' (even though I don't agree with the real meaning of it).

I've often wondered that...

PS Relax by Frankie is a good one....

Hi T.....

Well...it has been said and believed that 'Break On Through (to the other side)' is about heroin...

"everybody loves my baby...
she gets.....high....."

Comment by Mrs M

April 2nd 2007 00:37
Yep. Jim Morrison was a big fan of Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception and in it, it talks about breaking through our consciousness and you could only do that by drugs. Jim dropped a lot of acid in his time. And Break On Through was born. It is also how he came up with the name "The Doors".

I was 15 when I read his biography so my memory might be a bit sketchy.

My 3 year old love Hello I Love You. It's cute to watch him sing along to it.

I think I was 9 when Relax was released. Had no idea what it was about but I just loved the groove.

Love & stuff

Was this 'No One Here Gets Out Alive'?

Jim dropped a lot of pants in his time too!!!

...and peyote.

As for 'Relax'....it got banned in the UK (1984?), due to its suggestive lyrics and the cover on the album... huge controversy (stupid) and bigger hit.

Good to see you Mrs M

Dusk,

Oh great question! Though I've gone completely blank and am desperately trying to remember any songs!!!! lol

Two definites would be:

Does Your Mother Know - Abba (actually there's a couple of struting Abba songs, but I've always had a soft spot for this).

Honky Tonk Woman - Rolling Stones

I know as soon as press 'create comment' I'll suddenly remember my ultimate strut song. I'll be back when inspiration hits!

Oh yeah....I'm not that big of an ABBA fan but I love the beat of 'Summer Night City' (I think) and 'Gimme Gimme Gimme a Man After Midnight'...that was definitely a pre marriage Strut Song!!!
Well....sort of...now it's just Gimme One Man...is this too much? Where am I going with this?....

...And if nothing else...than ol' Rubber Lips sure as hell knows how to Strut!

Good to see you hon.

I somehow managed to miss this post the first time around. I remember you mentioning your love for the Hawaii 5-0 theme on one of my posts as well, Dusk.

Of course, the ultimate strut song (as Josh Z said) is Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees. While we're on TV themes, though, I have to say that the theme from Alias makes me want to don a wig and strut, preferably through some European underground nightclub that is really a front for a drug and/or weapons ring. After the ensuing fight in which I invariably kicked some ass, I would leap into the waiting arms of Michael Vaughn...

Ahem, where was I?

It's supposed to be later this year, most likely around August - but then again it was originally supposed to air over summer. So in short, it will be whenever Channel Seven make up their minds
