Rugby Union - by Craig Hill

Rucks and Jones will Break His Bones...

January 10th 2007 12:16
...Chris Latham tore his knee.

Chris Latham hurt himself colliding with a teammate in a contact session at training.
He obviously ran in to a Forward...who was standing still at the time.

Qld Reds coach Eddie Jones (former Wallabies joke...sorry...Coach) has defended letting Latham join a training session with his Queensland teammates, which has left the Wallabies fullback with a serious knee injury.

Because only the elbow has a funny bone...

Preliminary scans have found Latham tore both his anterior cruciate and medial ligaments at Reds training on Saturday.

Basically he's fucked. Whoops. I mean...[deleted].

Before we go on, may I remind you that Rugby is a contact sport.

As reported by www.ninemsn.com.au word for word because it's all too bloody hilarious.

"Latham's Tri-Nations and World Cup campaign is also in doubt, prompting an angry response from Australian coach John Connolly.

Connolly said Latham had only just finished with a Wallabies three-day training camp in Canberra and he questioned why the 72 Test veteran was involved with the optional Reds session.
"We're going to ask for a report out of Queensland about how it happened cause he was in the 22 RPA group supposedly staying out of all contact," he said on ABC radio.

Latham said it was his decision to train with the Reds while Jones said there were no clear edicts
(edicts!) from the Australian Rugby Union over how Super 14 sides handled their star Wallabies.

"There's been no clear edict
(edict!!) one way or the other from the ARU and anyone who says otherwise is lying and Lath wanted to train on Saturday," Jones said.
"If we had more players with Chris' attitude I think we'd be doing a little bit better.
"What do you do, not train? You can't get around the fact rugby's a physical sport.
"You can do your back in picking up your baby - do you stop players being a father at home?"

Latham has described the mishap as "freakish".

DuskDevi has described these freaks as misshapen...
Hello? Rugby Union? CONTACT sport.

Supposedly, a week ago, Latham was waterskiiing and he says;
"...nothing happened and now all of a sudden I go out and train like I have the last 10 or 11 years and this happens. You just can't help an accident."

Now that's just axiomatic.

I do hope that Latham is okay though. He's annoying and he won't pull up his socks (literally) but he's an incredible, invaluable rugby player.

The 31yo visited a specialist today (Wednesday 10/01) and is expected to have a knee reconstruction which will keep him out of the Reds Super 14 campaign.

Chris Latham...me deep in needles.

And see...I can write a rugby post about someone other than...nope. Not saying his name.

Will not step into that hen trap...not for a lark, not for a ham.

Dusk,

Great post. I did hear about Latham's injury yesterday. Very sad for the Wallabies.

Who knew that Eddie Jones knew what an edict was?

I'm with you Dusk ... Contact sport!! How ridiculous. We're in AFL pre-season now and there's an annual pre-season game that the Swans play at North Sydney Oval (Feb 16, can't remember the time however). Roos has just come out saying that Spida Everitt (our big name buy for this year - he's 32 and so probably this year will be his last. Love him though - the man's a legend. Love his tats, love his bad attitude, great ruckman) ...

Anyway, I digress. Roos has come out saying that Spida will play the pre-season game and the press has gone all - ooh, ah, is that such a good idea. I mean, he may hurt himself.

Contact sport, people. That's what happens every time you train, play, warm down, get pissed at Hugo's in the Cross on a Saturday night and get down a little too hard with the ladies on the dance floor. Every athlete is at risk of injury every day of the week. It's such a joke the fuss they've made about the fact that Latham was playing rugby and sustained his injury (I have to admit to being very worried for a second - had to stop and think: Latham, Larkham, Latham, Larkham. Phew, it's Latham - not that it's good - Dusk won't be devastated and crying herself to sleep for the 2007 season)

Okay, rant over. Nice to see you again, Dusk.

Karen(Cheer cheer the red and the white)C ... ah, it's 2007 and a new AFL season is only 3 months away. And in the meantime, there's always cricket ...

Hiya my luverly KC...

It's all getting a wee bit 'precious' now.
Contact sport players wrapped in cotton wool. Next thing we'll see them all running around in those plastic sumo wrestler crashsuits!

Can you imagine them all (Rugby and AFL) rucking each other??

...get pissed at Hugo's in the Cross on a Saturday night and get down a little too hard with the ladies on the dance floor. Every athlete is at risk of injury every day of the week.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...choke....splutter...damn girl you're killing me!

Don't worry KC and the swanshine..um...brand (sorry am Juniper Berry and Quinine befuddled...), if it was Larkham, everyone would know about it...

The seasons he's been out because of injury or cancer or because he's a just a selfish bastard who doesn't care that my life is ruined....okay that's a bit, okay a lot, dramatic but I kid you not KC, when Larkham is not playing...a little bit of my pleasure is dulled.

If he gets injured and it looks really bad....people actually call me to ask if I'm alright!!!

sigh...100 cents short of a dollar I am...

See you soon my SwansGal...
