Whoops. Forgot that it's Rugby Tri Nations, not...
June 27th 2007 17:04
...one nation.
"Please explain."
Well. It's like this.
We're smack bang in the middle of major grrrRugby season...the Tri Nations series, which actually started 2 weeks ago when the Wallabies played the Springboks in South Africa.
Okay...so I sort of told you waiting with bated breath sportsfans what went down, who won, etc. (just in case you missed that post....link provided, you lucky thing you...)
What I didn't mention was that it was the start of the Tri-Nations...nor did I mention that a major match was played last Saturday in Durban, SA, between the Springboks and some insignificant team from New Zealand...
Hey. If you want maturity...get some cheese.
And please read my fuschia disclaimer.
Anyway, the NZ team won.
All Blacks 26 - Springboks 21
According to rumour the All Blacks are on fire. Which explains why they're called All Blacks...
The Tri Nations is a series of Rugby Union matches, held every year between the Wallabies (Australia), the All Blacks (New Zealand) and the Springboks (South Africa).
The competition is organized by SANZAR, a consortium formed by the rugby governingbusybodies of Australia's ARU, New Zealand's NZRFU and South Africa's SARU.
The Tri Nations Cup was first contested in 1996 (when SANZAR was formed) and pitted the Wallabies, All Blacks and Springboks against each other in the world's premier Rugby competition...in order to create the equivalent of a major Southern Hemisphere tournament (as the Northern hemisphere countries enjoy many major tournaments).
Each team plays four times (fixtures) at home and away.
Australian soapie fans, please don't get excited. This has nothing to do with you.
Each team plays each other twice.
Each team plays at home twice and away twice.
Six matches in total.
The 2007 Match Schedule:
16-06-2007 3:00pm
Springboks - 22 v Qantas Wallabies - 19
Newlands, Cape Town
23-06-2007 3:00pm
Springboks - 21 v All Blacks - 26
Absa Stadium, Durban
30-06-2007 8:00pm
Qantas Wallabies v All Blacks
MCG, Melbourne
07-07-2007 8:00pm
Qantas Wallabies v Springboks
Telstra Stadium, Sydney
14-07-2007 7:35pm
All Blacks v Springboks
Jade Stadium, Christchurch
21-07-2007 7:35pm
All Blacks v Qantas Wallabies
Eden Park, Auckland
The Wallabies have won the trophy twice. The Boks have won it twice and the All Blacks have mumble mumble mumble.
The winner is determined by a points system:
4 points for a win
2 points for a draw
0 points for a loss (really?)
Bonus points also get awarded and count toward deciding the series winner.
At the end of the series the team with the most points is declared the winner. (really??)
However, the Tri Nations has never ended in a tie for Top Dawg.
Since the start of the Tri Nations, the matches played between the Wallabies and the All Blacks, also determine the winner of the Bledisloe Cupeach year.
And that's a major post coming up.
The first Bledisloe is this Saturday June 30th.
This is not just a Rugby Match.
This is grrrrrrrrrrrrrRugby War.

The Qantas Wallabies?
Sponsorship in sport is so over-the-top, nowadays. The Flying Kangaroo sponsoring the grounded Wallabies?
Out of respect Qantas should paint a wallaby on one of their planes and have the colours changed from red-and-white to green-and-yellow.
This would happen if Pauline Hanson was PM. (Free foid-poisoned fush 'n chups' for the All Blacks on the flight over?).
On an aside, I always find it amusing when a television program is sponsored (or 'brought to you') by another program. Where will this end? Will sponsors end up getting sponors?
This program was brought to you by the following sponsors who are sponsored by ...

Rugby World Cup 2007
According to the latest press releases,
Supposedly the All Blacks are dealing with a lot if injuries but still...the big names are there for this Saturday's clash.
Anton Oliver, Flavell, Collins, Macaw, Rokocoko, pansy boy Carter who hopefully will put som clothes on (see this post), Muliaina, Mealamu,...
I'll have the full squad up soon.
As for the Boks. I find this bravura insulting and rude and disrespectful. And quite admirable.
This is psychological warfare. The World Cup is at stake. They're trying to unsettle the Wallabies.
I said trying.
...but still..as you say...
That's not really the Boks problem nor fault.
It's the greed of the ARU.
Thanks for coming by Mr Nice Guy...

Can't see why that would be a problem...especially because Air NZ has (or had) an all black plane... it was jet black!!...with faces painted on the side. I think at one stage Zinzan Brooke was flying high.
...and it is funny really...I hadn't actually thought much about it until you pointed it out. But you could it's the other way around (going by recent Qantas reports)...
The Flying Wallabies sponsored by the grounded Qantas.
As for this?:
I find it amusing how shows like CSI (and ilk) get sponsored by womens cosmetic products and shows like Law & Order get sponsored by car companies... that show speeding cars...
...Big Brother.

What a Woman.
We're hosting a Bledisloe-down on Saturday night and I'm going to be geared up!
My Wallabies top and my Wallabies visor beanie and my Wallabies scarf with my Wallabies badge and my Wallabies tattoo...topped off with my Wallabies cape.
Might have to post a pic for the sheer tragic freak value.
much warmth hon...

Flashes of memories
The game against the All Blacks was part of the Boks strategy - let them think they are winners... until the time comes when it really counts.
South Africans are known for their superior intelligence.

That's what I always say when the Wallabies don't win a match. It's strategy.
Losing a battle to win the war.
