If Wonder Woman Played Rugby...
October 27th 2006 00:47
Then she’d truly be The Perfect Woman!
Seriously...Wonder Woman/Princess Diana has got everything going for her to be the best rugby player in the world.
She’s intelligent, she’s an Amazon, she’s super strong and she can fly (she can play prop and wing...tee hee...) she has the Lasso of Truth (“who rucked me?”), she’s not real...gasp...did I say that? No. I typed it. Idiot. (me. Not you)
That was my blatant rugby reference. This is a rugby blog after all...
Have just posted a rugby related Catherine Zeta-Jones post. Rereading it got me thinking about this – CZJ’s name had been bandied about as a possibility to play Wonder Woman in the as yet TBA production of the movie.
Joss Whedon (‘Buffy’ and ‘Firefly’) will direct and is currently perfecting his screenplay and teasing the media. Joel Silver (‘V for Vendetta’ and the ‘Matrix’ movies) is producer.
We knew this was coming. In a time when the world truly needs Super Heroes, we turn to Hollywood. And Bollywood even...but we’ll get to that later.
(And we could turn this in to a rant about how Hollyweird has run out of ideas, hence the current 'give life to graphics' trend and how the money used to make one blockbuster could be used to make 10..hell, 20... documentaries on the state of the world or used to fund developing filmmakers or given to charities and the countries that need it...instead of sending their 'emoting heads' on Save The World Missions... but we won't.)
I would love CZJ to be Wonder Woman. Alas, in a bubble where 20yo's are veteran thespians, I fear she may be considered too old at the tender age of 37. Sigh...I’m obviously out of the running then...anyway... Of course Lynda Carter is the One and Only but she’s currently Principal of some Super Hero School.
Other actresses who have been considered
- Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra ‘Serenity’ and ‘Firefly’) Yes absolutely
- Kate Beckinsale (‘Underworld’ ‘Van Helsing’) hmmm...maybe...nice hair...
- Sandra Bullock. No.
- Rachel Bilson (‘The OC’) hello? Wonder Woman, not Girl.
- Priyanka Chopra (Indian actress and Miss World 2000) yeaahhh mayyybe...but I’m biased...the Bollywood connection...
- Charisma Carpenter (‘Buffy’, ‘Angel’, ‘Veronica Mars’) Charisma by name, not by nature
- Jennifer Anniston let me think about it...she is Greek after all...no, No and NO.
Wonder Woman is an Amazon (tall, tall, tall) with blue eyes and she may be a Fierce Warrior but she’s also a Princess of Peace so The Chosen Woman must have these physically apparent qualities;
strong in face and in body, feminine but not 'girlie', beautiful but not arrogantly so, eyes that glint with intelligence and compassion (ting...the sound of glint), sweet, gentle and kind.
These are my picks;
- Lucy Lawless (‘Xena’) almost 6’, blue eyes, already trained in combat, does 'fierce' well plus she’s sweet and kind.
- Aishwarya Rai (‘Bride and Prejudice’ Miss World 1994) ...not as tall but again I’m biased....plus she’s got blue/green eyes and is known in the Western World...and we all know she wants World Peace...
Wonder Woman needs exact representation on the big screen. She may be just a comic book character to some...to others, she's a graphic novel symbol of hope...
Who’s your choice to play Wonder Woman? And do you care?

Everytime they talk about a Wonder Woman movie there ends up being whispers of Jennifer Aniston playing her. To which I say...NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. Did you get that? Should I say it once more just to be sure? Okay, NO WAY!!!!!!!!
By the way, I just had a chance to read your comment on the topic of the Lightsabers, and now I can't stop singing 'lightsaber, lightsaber' to the tune of "night fever". That was a great pick up. And people now will think I'm mental as I sing it to myself for the rest of the day!

Um...no, I didn't get that, what did you mean about Jennifer Anniston? !!!!!!!
I completely agree. Other than being Greek and Wonder Woman being from the Greek Isle of Themyscira (yeah I know...okay?...nerd alert...I have a massive collection of WW comics), Anniston has no redeeming qualities fit for this role.
CZJ...please, please Joss Whedon...CZJ for WW...otherwise Lucy is The One.
And all together now...
"lightsaber, lightsaberrrrr...I know how to wield it...ooh ooh ooooh...lightsaber, lightsaberrrrr...I know how to build it..."
Try and get that out of your head!!!
Thanks KylieW...

I'm going to introduce Kylie into the lightsaber song debate...
You really are a nerd, DD, I'm impressed.
Not super involved in the whole Wonder Woman thing, in all honesty. But I did love Linda Carter (am I right??) as WW in the series. I loved her bullet repelling wrist bands (pying, pying) and I do remember one episode where she was tied up and in a construction site and she rolled down a conveyor belt and so magically transformed into WW. Okay, so maybe I'm a little more into her than I thought.
I honestly can't think of anyone. Love Xena but don't think she's the best actress to have graced the earth, which bothers me. Also love the Bollywood chick you mentioned, but she also doesn't quite do it. Ange Jolie is really tall and stuff - but she doesn't really cut it either. Maybe Megan Gale ...

Hey that's a new look for you, isn't it - or did I drink too much again last night at my daughters party?
I do care and this is not good that the only good candidate is Katherine, but I'm with you on this one. KT-J it is, she is strong enough and feminine enough to carry it off I think.
What about Hale Berrie (spelling) She's not amazonian enough perhaps, but why can't the legend be altered, everyone else does it? Otherwise I like your choice of Priyanka Chopra and would love her love interest to be that Khan fellow (if she has to have one in the film). Maybe a Bollywood version of Wonder Woman .... Ooh goodie, I love Hindi Films and have amassed quite a collection.
I enjoyed this post,
Lilla...

Can't you just see it...we from The Order of Orble Jedi, all brandishing our newly constructed, and very stylish may I add (your diamante death rays lighting the way and glammed up to the umm...hilt)...
cue Star Wars theme...we stop in formation...we wait...cue Superfly Jedi Orblers theme..."...lightsaber, lightsaber..."...
it's Saturday Light Saber at The Jedi-sco Temple (No T-shirts. No Thongs. No Sith. And Please Don't Mind Trick The Bartenders) and we're gettin' down to the funky moves of The Force... far far out...
Okay, that's enough of that.
I love Angelina Jolie but she's Lara Croft...although the 'real' Lara Croft will always be for me, Rona Mithra -she was one of the 'models' they used to 'create' Lara for the smaller screen and she's best known for her role on 'Boston Legal' as Alan Shore's [James Spader] lawyer love interest.
I can't believe I told you all that. I can't believe I KNOW all that. Sheesh...
Besides AJ is too intense. WW smiles more than she snarls.
Yes, for sure...Megan Gale is gorgeous, Amazonian and she would look damn good as WW but she may be a bit too sweet. There is such a thing.
Sigh...it's all too much...
I thank you for your compliment.
KarenC my fellow GammaGal..."Okay, so maybe I'm a little more into her than I thought."
Oh yeah!!!

Yes, it is a new look for me...so, yes you may have drunk too much at your daughter's party but that hasn't diminished your powers of observation!
Thought I might represent my beloved rugby looking a little less bedraggled!!
I absolutely agree that the legend can be altered, hence the Bollywood Queens... I can't take credit for nominating Priyanka...her name has actually come up in gossip about the WW role.
Halle Berry is already 2 superhero characters; Storm in 'X-Men' and CatWoman.
Wow...I love my Bollywood movies too, I collect the seventies/eighties classics like 'Sholay' and 'Don'.
Thanks for visiting Lilla...I'm off to visit you now.

Thanks for the visit... good point on the link thing... it was too much wine after all. I'm up to speed now I think and churning on at least seven cylinders again. I have to too, as my new enviro-post is proving a real challenge...anyway didn't come here to talk about my blog, but to raise the count and have a chat on yours...
I love the older Hindi's - Mohabbatein comes to mind immediately with that Khan fellow. I can't remember his christian name. He was also in Dilwale Dulinania and Kal Ho Naa Ho. There's another one with him too and I just can't remember the name, but I'll come back, when it does....
Have you seen the Hindi version of ET - I loved it called; Koi ... Mil Gaya [you are not alone]?
Bohoot Acha
When do you think they will announce their decision for wonder woman and can you get her out onto the Rugby field?

Well...you must have been running...
Um hmmm...have had these dreams as well. As you say, "bahoot acha"!!!
Wow...you know your Hindi movies alright. Lilla do you still speak Hindi? Obviously having lived in India, you can converse and understand...so cool.
Shah Rukh Khan - the Brad Pitt of Bollywood.
Were you thinking about 'Devdas'?
I haven't seen 'Koi Mil Gaya' but it has one of my favourite Indian actresses' in it, Rekha...non Bollywood viewers, do any of you remember that Anglo-Indian movie 'Kama Sutra' directed by Mira Nair, has 'Lost' character Sayid (Naveen Andrews) in it as the spoiled Prince...well, Rekha is the Kama Sutra teacher.
The girl who plays the lead actress role in 'Kama Sutra' was last seen in 'Bride and Prejudice' as Naveen Andrews sister (ha!) and in that very shortlived Ode to Orgies on TV, 'Rome'.
Whoops...got carried away...sorry...
Am waiting, waiting, waiting re who will play Wonder Woman and as for getting her on the rugby field...sigh...the selectors won't go for it.
Her costume isn't green and gold!
Thanks Lilla. I'm coming over to cast my vote your way now.

I don't really care who plays Wonder Woman... I agree with your earlier comment that Hollywood has run out of ideas ... I'm surprised it's not set in Shakesperean times ... it must be at least two months since they did a Shakespeare remake ...
But since they're making the film ...
I'd like to see you play her ...
(I'll crawl my way back into your favour if I have to ... I'll get you to sign up for the fan club yet ...

Yeah, that's it... trying to run away....
Thanks for the praise but it's a modest collection... yes that's his name... scumpdiddlyoucious, someone-or-other, thanks... I can never remember his name. Yes, Devdas, that's the one. Aaahh here I go... back into the land of sweetest memories......
Yes, I learned to speak a bit in two years. Can't remember too much now though, although I understand more than I speak, I think you always do in foreign lands. I reckon I could still spend an afternoon with auntie poonan sipping Tea and some yummy galub Jamon....hmmmm, aaah those memories waft through....tugging at me so....
I remember the Karma Sutra... the movie as well.... *giggle*
Am heading over to Homer's place now to see you sign up for the fan club, can't wait to see which position you'll get....
Lots of Piyar to you...

Isn't this just one of the most sensual taste and aroma sensations?? As befitting the name...
Hmm...Homer should write a book...
The Homer Sutra;
A Guide To Wooing With Words.
aka Cyrano de Bergerac's got nothing on me!!
...then the postions will truly be assigned...!!
Much pyaar right back at you Lovely Lilla.
