Not as exciting or scary as Rugby...

...but it's still right up there!
So. Would you rather;
a) be tackled at full steam by 3, 6'6" 120kg haven't-eaten-since-9am breakfast-and-it's-now-brunch, Rugby Forwards?
b) or do this?
This is The Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, USA.
And this is its "fun" park....

I am pretty good with thrill rides...am scared witless and any other "_ _ itless", by them but will always go for it. For the same reason Hilary climbed Everest and I eat the whole packet of Tim-Tams.
It was there.
The scariest one I've been on is Speed, which I blogged about on this post....but...I'm not so sure I have adeathwish to conquer this.
These pics were sent to me via email because that's how friends let each other know we're thinking of them...and I'm post-castinating. Still.
By the way....Stephen Larkham is injured and the Rugby World Cup 2007 has been cancelled.
...and that, like the Emperor's new clothes is a complete fabrication...I need to get new material...
I'll be back sportsfans. With the facts and the friction.

Ever played on a teeter-totter 866 feet high?
With the X-Scream, you can!
With a space age, yet simplistic design resembling a massive teeter-totter unlike anything you’ve ever seen, the X-Scream will propel you and several other riders head-first, 27 feet over the edge of the Stratosphere Tower. Try not to scream when you go over the edge….you don’t want to scare the other riders!
After being shot over the edge, you’ll dangle weightlessly above the Las Vegas strip before being pulled back and propelled over again for more.

Three ‘G’s of Pure Insanity!
Insanity the Ride is a truly mindbending experience!
A massive mechanical arm extending out 64 feet over the edge of the Stratosphere Tower at a height of over 900 feet, Insanity will spin you and several other passengers in the open air at speeds of up to three ‘G’s.
You’ll be propelled up to an angle of 70 degrees, which will tilt your body into one position – facing straight down! If you’re brave enough to keep your eyes open you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of historic downtown Las Vegas.
Experience Insanity and walk away to tell the tale!

I'll give the ride a miss, thanks.
So I gather until Larkham is back (1/4 FInals according to your wanna-be competitor FoxSports) we won't be getting many updates on the RWC?

You do have a competitor, but don't get overly concerned about it. It's only Rupert Murdoch.
He's just one more media magnate who hasn't realised you can make serious money out of Google AdSense by being on Orble. I mean, come on. The guy's obviously got no idea.
One day he'll regret spending all his time making billions of dollars in the real publishing world, and setting up corporate conglomerates like Foxtel, buying Dow Jones, etc, when he could have set up Orble.
It never ceases to amaze me just how stupid people can be. The upside to all this? Jon is not a competitor. He's everybody's friend. Stick with Orble. Rupert will never put himself at the top of everyone's friend's list on Foxtel. He's too unprofessional.

What a coincidence.
I was actually in Vegas last week, my buddy and I went on the stratosphere rides "Insanity" and "Xtreme" teh day after my wedding....I will be doing a post on it soon. For now I will just say that its the only time in my adult life Ive ever been truly petrified (As my face in the photos will show) - no thrill ride comes close.

Kman and I have a theory. When your teenage years, you ride these things and carnie rides to show your not scared. But you dont really know why you should be.
By the time you get to your 20s you know how the rides are treated and transported, and your looking at the 'TECHNICIAN' standing beside the ride drinking a beer and your adult brain is full of one loose wingnut and how it could make everything go horribly wrong!

I'm going to have to vote for c) neither of the above.
Those are some amazing photographs, but I really think that is too extreme for the likes of me. I have enough trouble with these sort of rides when they're close to the ground!
Hope you're well, Dusk!

I'm willing to try most thrill rides once but I'm giving this one a miss....too much of a gamble and I don't like gambling...not anywhere in Vegas!
Thanks for coming by hon...

...but I'm in awe JD! Even though I've been on many 'scary' rides, I swear this just frightens the hell out of me!
Can't wait to read your post on all the exciting things that have happened and yes, a cool coincidence. (A friend is going to Vegas soon).

I'm off to Rock Vegas early next year - and the kids have earmarked this as a must do.
Me - hmmm - life is such a precious thing isn't it and having been rolled by a few forwards in my time (you'll find this often happens when aging outside centre's such as this correspondence - play just one season too many) - I'll take my chances on the ground.

I was there earlier this year and thats when I realised I was grown up?
I have been on most rollercoasters and such but not on a tower. On my 40th I lept from a skyrise in Thailand..defintetly not a safe rig..that was the last time.
Like you though I will sky dive not bungee jump...something about having my own life in my own hand when I leap...or something similar.
Love your work..keep it up.. X Miss Nomer

No! I couldn't do either, I'll have to sit on the sidelines, cheering everybody else on. Thanks for your comment of so long ago. Sorry I didn't counter comment. As for RWC injuries it's our Mulia'ina to your Larkham. Over here, everyone's still picking Springboks, Wallabies and All Blacks, in that oreder for the Cup. The french are hugely encouraged by Chaball, aka l'animal aka Sebas' performance on Sundayi

Ohhh I bet you're having a wonderful time!...and i certainly do not/did not expect you to respond nor visit me...you've got better things to do, like cheer The Wallabies on.
From what I have seen...it's anyone's Cup. Except perhaps England's. Their cup scrummeth and it's over!
Mills is injured? Man...I am so blinded by Gold, I don't really have much idea what's going on with the other teams, individual wise. Except that Jonny is
a naff ponceinjured. Again. To be sure, to be sure, Les Bleus have kept thir hopes alive and will definitely be in the QFs'. And then what?
Thanks for coming by Patricia. The ABs are looking a bit too good for my liking...
Have a great time!
