This is solar-vly...

The Sun Jar...a very Gamma bright idea...
Perihelion!

It was solar-ve (he he) at first sight...so had to have and had to share. (and please don't read any personality traits in that. it's just a statement of fact.)

A combination of traditional (the Mason jar) and futuristic (high tech energy efficient lighting)...it's aesthetically enchanting and environmentally friendly.

I just think it's beautiful. I love sunshine and this the closet I'm ever going to get to having the sun shine out of my...hands.

The Sun Jar does its thing thanks to a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and 3 low energy LED lamps. When the jar is left in sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the LED lamps et voila...let the sun shine in.

There are no switches on the jar...just a light sensor that glows bright when I walk in to the room...I'm kidding, okay? kidding!...the sensor activates the light when it gets dark but there is an override switch inside the lid, which turns the light off at night, to conserve battery life. And it's completely watertight so the jar can still sunbake when it's raining.

Have I mentioned I love this? Just love it.

That's it. There's no other point to this point other than a wish to share something beautiful.

Not one word about Rugby, nothing about The Wallabies and not a single mention of Stephen Larkham...

You can read more about it here.

Hiya Ninabelle...

Absolutely!...although I'm not sure any of us would actually do that to a lovely fairy. I suppose she'd be free to come and go as she pleases!...I always thought fireflys (...flies?) were fire fairies in camouflage.

Hope you're well hon...hugs...

Out of stock? Egads...we're out of sunshine already??

I ordered mine from a UK based company. Found the link for retailers in Aus through a Sunday paper's magazine.
Bummer. Hope they restock soon...thanks for the tip, will need to change a link elsewhere.

Hope you're well hon.

Where was this when I was feeling all moody and grouchy during winter? Might consider buying a few to put on my outdoor dining table to make my small dim balcony glow with 'sunshine'.

DuskyD,

What a great discovery... I love it. Do you know how long the light lasts?

Can you read by it's light? Are they expensive?

Backgrounder :

At first I thought it was little bugs in there ... but that's just me, you know...*twitch* the truth is, that during a routine trip to Coffs Harbour last week, I saw my first fire fly. Still can't believe that little fella... just an ordinary little black bug, with a backside to die for... if only we humans could adapt that technology.*chuckle* Anyeeway, the point is, I thought they were a myth - certainly not found here in Australia - and there he was... absolutely amazing, just like Perihelion.

You know, /seriously/ on a large scale this could have great potential?

Now that...sounds like a plan. In the meantime, hope you soak up the lovely sunshine we're having... carefully of course! Have a great weekend!

Hi LL...

I'm glad you came by. I knew you'd like this...not just for its aesthetic value.

You know, /seriously/ on a large scale this could have great potential?
Absolutely. All that power and energy that could be harnassed for bigger things.
If you follow the links you'll get to the designer's website (Tobias Wong)...very interesting human.

I love fireflys! It does seem a little cruel to lock them in a jar but from what I understand, the little critters don't mind much. Not sure how Entomologists determine that!

The light lasts for 5 hours on one charge. I suppose the strength would be equal to strong and steady candlelight.

It's about A$60. Do a Google Aus search and you'll find the online retailers.

Hope you're well LL...have a great weekend hon...

Dusk
