Rugby Union - by Craig Hill

Mourning Has Broken...

December 14th 2007 04:20
...and now I'm just furious.

It's bad enough I have had to come to terms with the fact that Stephen Larkham and George Gregan have retired.

It's bad enough I have had to deal with English friends gloat over their imagined Rugby superiority.

...but this...this is just sacrilege.

I am so damn angry about this. The ARUseless have done it again. Sold us out.

from Wide World of Sports

Deans announced as Wallabies coach

The Australian Rugby Union has announced that Robbie Deans will coach the Wallabies for the next four years.

Deans becomes the first foreigner to coach the national side.

The appoinment of Deans comes as no surprise, as he was the firm favourite after being overlooked for the All Blacks job

Yes. That's right. OVERLOOKED FOR THE ALL BLACKS JOB.

This is what the ARUseless does. It rewards losers.

... Deans will give up his coaching position at the Crusaders to step into Australia's national role.

The decision is likely to upset the Australian candidates; Ewen McKenzie, David Nucifora, Alan Jones, Laurie Fisher and John Muggleton.

Apart from losing out to a New Zealander, the Australians have been through a testing experience which included lodging their applications before the cut-off deadline, facing extensive interviews and being put in a holding pattern while Deans's All Black fate was decided.

Dean's appointment is seen by many as a masterstroke, but there are also plenty of Wallabies supporters who feel the role should have been reserved for an Australian.

...and I am one of them. It's not a masterstroke. It's a masturbatory stroke.

A total wank.

I'm sure many of you rational, logical type sportsfans think...well, Deans has proved how good a coach he is and the Wallabies need a shake-up, blah, blah boring...but let me please remind you that Deans is not taking up Australian citizenship nor learning how to speak English properly...he is a New Zealander with allegiance and loyalty to his country and his country's national team...

And this is what is going to motivate AUStralians?

This is what will happen.

If the Wallabies win...the Kiwis will take the credit.

If the Wallabies lose...the Kiwis will blame us.

I am so angry i cAnT tYhkuaduyuw!!!!!

(translation: "I can't type")

That's it. I know I have threatened this before but I really mean it now.

Rucks and Rolls is now a lawn bowling blog.

I mean it. Sort of.

...by the way...apologies for not having visited Orble (friends/favourites/blogs) for a while. I've been really lazy busy...but I'll be back soon to catch up with you all.

Right now...I'm going back to mourning and OH GOD...I'll be wearing All Black...

Yeah... kangaroos and stuff...

I don't know what you are talking about at all, but I still think it's funny. You are the only person I know who can make me look at anything to do with rugby. I love all your little puns and word plays!

Glad you are back Dusk!

I'm astounded. The ARU didn't perhaps want to think about why the All-Blacks chose to overlook Deans???

God they're idiots!!!

You go and simmer down, and have a great weekend

Hi Dusk

I really don't know anything about it, so I won't pretend...but it's good to see you and I feel your pain,

I just heard about this on the news and immediately thought of you. Couldn't believe it, to tell the truth.

And the first game he'll be coaching them for ...
... Wallabies v All Blacks!!
How ironic is that.

Wear a dark grayoutfit, that way you can mourn without paying unintended homage to anything else Devi. Then send me an address and I'll send a few pounds of genuine "moose berry" projectiles to chuck at those geniuses that have irritated you; uh, freeze the moose berries first. Raven

Does it really matter where Dean comes from???

I dont think so, im a new zealander myself living in sydney and im proud to have heard the news about appointing Dean as the new coach..Why do we have to judge the book by its cover before realising what this person can really bring into australia? Lets just see where Dean takes the Wallabies,im sure its to a good level..Lets just support him and wish him all the best for 2008..He needs the country's support to help lift his spirit and be able to approve him as who he is..Its Australias GAIN and New Zealands PAIN..I have a new team to support..

We're quite capable of bowing out in the semi-final stage without a New Zealand coach.

Hi Michaelie...lovely to see your gorgeous smile!

Yeah... kangaroos and stuff...
...hahahahaha!!

(but if we're talking the human versions...well that's a whole other ball game...one that's not quite in the same league...!)

It's okay if you have no idea what I'm crapping going on about...it's enough that you came, read and concurred!

Hope you are well hon...I hope to be back on a more frequent basis soon.

Hiya KW...

I had a great weekend but still haven't simmered down...

I keep reading Rugby news headlines as to what Deans is saying about the Wallabies and great, that's fine, but he keeps saying we need to make up for the loss of Stephen Larkham and that we need another Stephen Larkham and Stephen Larkham this and Stephen Larkham that...and. I. Just. Want. to. Punch. Him.

Not that I think violence is the answer.

The ARU -mainly John O'Neill- has shown it's "True Colours" (the RWC '03 slogan)...it's hypocrisy.

O'Neill slandered Eddie Jones for going to SA and then turns around and hires a foreigner.

...they might as well have hired a league coach.

Anyywayyy. Hope you're well hon...

Hiya T...

I'm trying to think of a suitable film analogy...can't think of any! And it's not quite the same I suppose.

Hmm...how about this?

It's like awarding Chopper Reed the Nobel Peace Prize.

Okay it's not that drastic.

...but it feels like that!

Just think about the Rugby match you went to earlier this year...can't remember if it was the Bledisloe, which is the traditional Rugby Big Gun rivalry between Aus and NZ...

...next year...Aus faces NZ with an NZ coach who in his heart really wanted to be the NZ All Black coach.

Great. Just great.

Thanks for coming by T...hope you're well.

There's no need for me to wear a gray outfit really... upon hearing the news, I went gray and it's so not my colour!

Hope you are well Raven...and keeping warm in your Alaskan winter wonderland...

Hello Anonymous....

No. It does not matter where Deans comes from. That's not my point.

Hello? I'm not exactly born and white bred Australian... cut me though and I bleed green and gold.

The Wallabies aren't strictly that either.

Don't be naive. This is not about race nor colour nor any other politically correct bullshit you want to throw my way.

I couldn't care less if Deans was hired to coach the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds or ousted Mitchell.

I am not blaming Deans...I am angry at the ARU. Deans is a great coach and should have been Henry's successor.

What message is the ARU sending out to its game's supporters.

A few years ago...it was, if you want to be a Wallaby...play league.

And now? Australians aren't good enough to lead their own teams?

I want you to think of it this way... what if the NZRU hires an Australian to coach the All Blacks?

What if the NZRU promoted David Nucifora?

How would you feel then?

It's not like we don't know that Deans wanted to be the All Blacks coach.

He wasn't begging to be the Wallabies coach from the get-go now was he?

What? The Wallabies...2 time RWC champion Wallabies ...are just a stepping stone? A hop, skip and scrum to get back in the Black?

Thanks for coming by. I appreciate your thoughts and opinion.

This is not about segregation. This is about motivational allegiance.

Hello Mal...I know you're a mad avid sportsfan...

NZ is quite capable of doing that too with an NZ coach.

Be well...

Hello Dusk

I'm well thanks, hope you are too.

I like the analogy, I see what you mean. It's not a good move at all, no wonder you're frustrated.
