The Rugby World Cuproar. Rest. Assured.

January 29th 2007 09:50
Okay. Where do I start with this one? I’m going to do my best to keep it short but that’s like saying I’ll write a post without once mentioning Stephen Larkham.

See what I mean?

2007 is Rugby World Cup year. The Rugby World Cup is another major* sporting event that happens every 4 years, like the Olympics or the US elections.
The last World Cup was held in 2003 in Australia.
I was in heaven.....then hell when England (the country I was bred in) stole Bill** from the country that I live, love and blog in.

However this is not a post about the Rugby World Cup.

This is a post about the Rugby World Cupheaval. The Cuproar. The Cupset....and in continuation of our 'What Are The Neighbours Whinging About Now?' theme...

There has been much adon’t about the fact that the All Blacks (The NZ national rugby team) will be ‘resting’ their top players for the first seven rounds of the Super 14 (which kicks off on Feb 2), as a precautionary measure before the World Cup.

Gee. If you haven’t been ‘rested’, how bad would you feel?
Yeah buddy....you suck. Now run along and play. Win the match while you're at it....

BUT...The Wallabies have now got in on the act....and a whole lot of players are in danger of being rested. I say danger because someone’s blood will spill if I am rugby fans are deprived of seeing Larkham the Super 14 players who are Wallabies.
Please note I do not advocate the spilling of blood unless warranted. This is warranted.

The whole kerfuffle is due to the amount of injuries and what not the players are sustaining before rugby season starts; shattered knees, broken collarbones, torn shoulders, groin pulls....hmmmm...and all this is just because their wives missed them....

Kidding. Maybe not....groin injuries always seem to happen off season....anyway, blah, blah, boring...injuries? Come on. What are they men or league players?

There is some concern (not unfounded) that major injuries sustained during the Super 14 games will render our Super Wallaby players legless...and not in celebration either.
At Super 14 level, this ain’t no tango kiddo....this level really separates the titans from the tonka toys.
So the suggestion has been made and put in to action of wrapping those prone to injuries players in "cotton wool".
This means they will not play all the Super 14 matches just in case they get tackled.

BUT...Rugby is a contact sport....

Apparently months of hush hush negotiating by the Australian Super 14 sides for an agreement with the ARU on how Wallabies players are used without getting abused has been futile.

As per usual the ARUseless is going against the wishes of the very people they need to keep happy....Australia's Super 14 coaches.
The ARU wants to protect their investment.
The Coaches want the players to prove their worth.
They've made allowances. They've allowed the injured players to go home (...you think I'm kidding....back in the old days, a broken collarbone was considered a scratch)

The Super 14 sides, as agreed, are
liaising with Wallabies strength and conditioning coach Jason Weber to style programs and track their wellbeing.

There is still a lot of contention and barbs traded and wires crosses (tis a barb wire defense), over which players should be on the RTA list, which of them should or should not play in trial games and which players are spelled for one Super 14 game this season.

Have you finally understood what my main concern is?

It's SimpLe really.

*I'm just being polite. For me this is the only major sporting event.
**The William Webb Ellis Cup, Rugby Word Cup trophy and what we're going to get back this year. Please God.

Hi Dusk

Well, it's really going to hit the fan if they rest him, isn't it...

... I wouldn't want to be in their shoes if they do.

Cara xx

Cara...sob....they have rested him....

The first Brumbies (his team...well okay...the team he plays for) match is on this weekend and I'm just waiting to see who's in the squad....

It's going to hit the fan alright.
If he's not playing, it will hit me hard but....really....

It's Rugby, it's Super 14 and it's ON!!!
Yes.

I know I carry on and on and on and on....and on about Larkham (sigh) and when he's not playing it's like eating a TimTam without the chocolate (what?), drinking tonic without the gin, singing a song without words, listening to music without harmony, watching a clock without time...

What was I saying?
Right.

You get my point. It sucks when Larkham (sigh) is not playing but Rugby is Rugby and I love it.
Nothing will ever stop me loving it.
...not even Larkham (sigh) retiring (sob)...

I hope you are well Cara...thank you for coming by my sweet Angel Sis...

Dusk
