RWC O7: Wallabies 91 - Japan 3

Wallabies 91 - 3 Japan
Yes that looks harsh but at half-time, Australia was leading by just 20 points. (23-3).
Will provide a more in-depth summary at a later time. I'm a bit tired right now...it's almost 3am and I've just
The Wallabies looked rusty in the first half. Predictions were that we would be up by at least 100pts in the first 20min but Japan's never say bonzai attitude and tenacity made our plays look scrappy....Japan's defence was awful...I've seen caught in the act thieves defend their innocence better
Our Forwards had to do all the work (with some Larkham magic off loading of course), with 2nd rower Nathan Sharpe and flanker Rocky Elsom landing our first 3 tries. Elsom had a killer of a game! 3 tries....He was Rocky Ball-boa!!
Rocky Elsom - after the first of his many tries v Japan (and notice how the TV channel logo is placed just perfectly...seriously 10)
...second half...the tries kept coming...our play tightened then loosened then was total crap then tightened again. Yes at almost 3am, that is my limit of technical analysis.
Japan...bravo, they did the best they could. And they managed to upset the Wallabies rhythm many times.
The Wallabies scored 13 tries (I think...will count later!).
Try Scorers:
Nathan Sharpe, Rocky Elsom (3), Chris Latham (2), Drew Mitchell (2), George Smith, Adam Freir and
rookie & replacement flyhalf Berrick Barnes scored 2 on debut.
(...damn...I've missed someone...)
A few points:
- I kept switching from Channel 10's coverage to Fox Sports 2 and Ten has the best coverage by far.
Most importantly because Ten has Australian commentators (with 2 Rugby retired greats - Ben Tune and Ben Darwin) who know that it's Gree-gun (Gregan) NOT "Gray-gun"...as the poncy commentator on FS2's coverage feed, kept saying.
- Stephen Larkham has a new haircut. A buzz cut....because he is a Wallaby....
- thre's something quite amazing about the fact that rookies always score a try when they make their test match debut....Gregan made an excellent pass to Barnes, who apparently "clear called" for it and Barnes was off and over for the first of his 2 tries.
Was happy for him.. Was not happy that Larkyum left the field.
Also not happy that Wally was left to fend for himself.
Wally is The Wallabies mascot and as per tradition, it is the youngest player's (Barnes is the youngest player) duty to guard Wally with his life, at all times.
Wally goes missing at least 15 times a day and turns up in the strangest places.
...yesterday he was hidden under Stephen Larkham's coat for a few hours...
Yes. I too wish I was a Wally....
...he he...

My apologies for the poor quality of these images. As Orble is unable to send me to France for the Rugby World Cup and seeing as I don't have a membrship to the Boys Club that is the controlling Rugby media body here...live image capture is the best I can do.

Not a fan or a convert, but I'm glad we won... good for moral... although looking at the scores (which I know nothing about) it looks like it was genocide?
[I...um...]It is the highest score that wins right?[/I]
Excuse my ignorance...and CONGRATUALTIONS, sounds like you had a good match? (explains why orble is so 'quiet' this morning....*chuckle*
Warm hiugs

Where's your stamina girl?
Watched the game myself - a good hit out to enable the guys to work on timing, scrummaging and their line-outs - but that's about all.
Given the time of your missive - plaudits to you.
