Superman is in love with Lois LAME.
December 1st 2006 05:28
Okay, first up my apologies to all you Orble Movie, DVD and Comic Book bloggers. This is your domain...well, not literally. Rucks and Rolls is my domain but I’m talking about field (oooh...pun...not intended but kept anyway) not territory.
Apart from being a rugby loving freak and a vintage clothing freak and a freak full stop, I’m also a comic book freak. And I will refer to them as comic books. Not graphic novels. I like this term because this is what they are, novels with pictures but I’m not in the mood to be socio-politically correct (goodness me, it’s SPC gone mad)...I’ll call a spade a spade...or a trowel or a shovel or a scoop...
Anyway, I have collected comic books since I was a wee lass and have amassed a huge collection. I had to give some away because eek...maturity hit (aka strands of grey hair amongst my brunette and teal) and at the ripe young age of umm...more than mid 30s, less than 40...made the decision to grow up.
Sort of.
A) I gave my collection to my brother and my children...so they’re really still in the family (and therefore within reach)
B) I didn’t really give it all away.
I have still got my entire collection of Wonder Woman comics and have kept the best of all my favourites; Batman/Dark Knight, The Green Lantern, The Silver Surfer and Superman...which leads me to the point of this post.
I love the Christopher Reeve ‘SuperMan’ movies and have them all in my movie collection (yes, am also a movie freak) and don’t you just love the way Supe smiles at you at the end...
I loved ‘SuperMan Returns’! I can’t wait for it to be released on DVD.
I really admire the director, Bryan Singer's style. He’s the major difference between ‘X-Men 2' being totally cool and ‘X-Men 3’ being a cold fish.
Brandon Routh is just perfect as Superman/Clark Kent/Cal-el and although I’m not too fussed about Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor, he was okay.
I really liked James Marsden’s character, Richard White...I liked the way that this character proved that an 'ordinary' human has a superhero within...but I’m not here to review the movie.
I’m here to bitch about Lois Lane.
And seeing she is not a real woman, this does not violate MOSTEST rules.
It’s not just Kate Bosworth’s portrayal of Lois Lane that I hated (and I’ll get to that later, maybe) it’s the character of Lois Lane.
Nothing and no one is ever going to get me to like the character as portrayed in film and on TV and even in the comics.
Lois is such a cliché. I've always hated that she is "in love" with Superman and so indifferent to Clark Kent.
Clark Kent is the disguise. Superman/Cal-el is the real persona (and I knew this long before Bill explained it to Beatrix in ‘Kill Bill Vol 2’).
This is quite rare. It's usually the other way around...the human is the 'reality', the superhero is the disguise.
(Wonder Woman is like Superman and in the DC world, they do end up together...yayy!)
BUT one should be "in love" with all personas, the strong and the weak, the perfections and the faults, the Superman and the Clark, all facets of the one personality and Lois is a victim and a perpetual damsel in distress. Independent woman my ass. She's the ultimate groupie. Surely Cal-el should be able to see through her and not just literally!
I particularly didn't like Bosworth's portrayal of Lois Lane...very bitter and very rude to Clark. She was not written like this in the comics. Margot Kidder played her well enough, oblivious yet still nice to Clark. Don't even start me on Teri Hatchet...sorry...Hatcher.
Yes, so the Lois Lane character in this movie is doing it tough...single working mother...who lives in a waterfront mansion with a seaplane berthed outside at her disposal and the boss’ gorgeous and rich and accomplished nephew ready to do anything for her.
Yeah. I’d like to do it that hard too.
Off on a different tangent...if Lois’ son is Cal-el’s son...how hard was that labour????
So what is the point of this post?
Lois Lane is lame.
She’s in love with the idea of being loved by the most superb human on the planet (in the DC world).
Lois Lane is a trophy collector and Superman is her ultimate prize.
She doesn’t care what has hurt him, she doesn’t care that he had to be away from earth to find himself, she doesn’t care that it is his duty to protect all humankind and that it is enough that he professes love for only one and she’s not happy with that...nooo...it’s her or nothing...
And because she is so hurt by him not wanting to give up his legacy to help humankind because he's such a selfish bastard and she is the epitome of generosity (ha bloody ha), she writes a Pulitzer Prize (puh-lease) winning feature explaining 'Why The World Doesn't Need Superman' when what she really meant was 'Superman I Am All The World You Need'.
Sheesh. I'm so bummed about this all, I can't write. This is the dumbest thing I have ever written. It makes no sense...but this is what I felt like writing about today. Okay? My perogative.
Look up in the sky...it's a bird, it's a plane...it's Superman on a leash belonging to Lois Lame.

Hello, my lovely!
First of all, I have to say, this is so NOT the dumbest post you've ever done.
I'm actually thinking this is my most favourite post you've ever done....with the exception of the MOSTEST post, of course.
Loving this!
And, for some reason, I'm re-reading it, singing Britney's 'My Perogative' song...
Yes, Britney's version, not Bobby Brown's...since Britney is so hot and all right now again (supposedly)...flashing her hoo ha (yes, this is what I've taught my daughter to call her 'feminine regions'....stop laughing now) every where, with that skanky Hilton (everybody's stayed in one!) next to her...
Oh, my goodness, just seriously got off the topic, and am acting very un-MOSTEST like.
Part of our code should be we're allowed to trash the mega-rich and trashy.
(Please let that be part of our code, oh Queen)
But anyway, back to your post...
Seriously loving it.
And I completely agree with you about Lois Lane, I mean Lame.
Love that you love comic books....I think I have just about every Archie comic known to man (and woman)...
Not that's lame.
Your sis forever and a day,
K.L.

I must have been so deprived in my adult life since I have not read a comic of any kind in many years.
Yes ... you heard me right ... many years.
Not since I used to buy that one with Dennis the Menace in it when I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper.
Damn, can't even remember what it's called.
Superman, on the other hand, well you just can't beat Christopher Reeve in my opinion. How good was he.
Now on to Lois ...
I must admit, I've never really given her much thought, which, considering the fact that she's one of the main characters in the whole "Is it a bird? Is it a plane ..." thing, has just struck me as strange.
You're so right, though ...
YES, she is weak and silly ...
YES, she should love S-man / Clark Kent with and without his glasses (isn't that considered to be politically incorrect these days, to discriminate against someone for wearing glasses?) ...
and YES, it's okay to have a bitch about a fictional creation. MOSTEST understands and approves!
An important point has been made in this post; important and entirely valid, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I now need to go and write a stunning and interesting article on house repossessions...
With you in MOSTEST, my chocolate liquor Sister
Caramella A.H.
P.S. to K.L. I wasn't particularly imaginative when I told my daughter what to call her nether regions ... she grew up referring to them as her 'bits'.

Yayy!! I love that you and Caramella are first to comment...um...actually you're the only 2 to comment but oh well...you're the 2 most important people to me here so I'm not complaining.
Well my pine/ocean/cinnamon scent of a man is back and I am exhaling...all is well again.
So why am I here instead of being with him?
My poor darling is so sick and in need of some major being-back-in-his-own-bed comfort. So I've put him and my youngest to bed and I thought I'd come see if my sisters were around...and you are...well you were...it is now 12:45am.
K.L....my sweet...do not knock Archie! I collected Archie comics (I gave this collection to my brother) and of course Betty was my favourite. Veronica was such a bitch (non real female, am not in violation of MOSTEST rules)
Oh.My.God.
That is sooo not MOSTEST.
BUT...I think we can bend MOSTEST rules to just have a wee bit of a 'session'...'discussing' the lives of the rich, famous and downright stooopid.
I try to be good truly, I try but I see Victoria Beckham and I just want to pinch the corners of her lips and pull...why does this girl not smile?? Does she think POSH stands for Please Omit Smiling Habits or something...and she's just so skinny and Lois Lame like in staying with a player like Bend It AnyWhere I Can Beckham...and what's with the orange skin and the OTT make-up and clothes...and please don't start me on the boobs and...have I gone too far? I have haven't I? I'm such a disgrace...I bring shame upon the MOSTEST Code of Solidarity...but you'll forgive me woncha sis???
My physical world soul sister TZH uses 'cha cha' and this is strange but...I was trying to be be anatomically correct and teach the right words for hoo ha/cha cha/bits...so my daughter has always wondered why a car is named after female genitalia...she thought I was saying volvo!! All these years later...we still laugh about it and this is the name that has stuck!
Someone should tell Britney that it doesn't matter if "oops she did it again" and she's going "crazy" because she feels her hoo ha/volvo/bits have been "overprotected" and have become "a slave for u" because going commando as the yanks say is all getting a bit "toxic" now and I cannot believe I actually know these songs but what's worse I really did like 'slave for u' and 'toxic'...
I will visit a few times over the weekend my Golden sis...I'm hoping my honeybun will wake up all fresh and well in the morning...sad sack alert...it's so wonderful to know he's within touching distance...
Have a wonderful weekend my wonderful soulgal

...Denice The Menace...I had a few of these...
I've just refused to fully grow out of my inner child. I love comics for the incredible artwork and stories but I was also a bookworm...still am...although I no longer have the time to read as much as I used to (I'm sure you 2 understand this)...my dad taught me to speed read so if I set my mind to it I can literally zip through a book...
Christopher Reeve, God bless his beautiful soul and his wife's...I don't mean to be a foreign minister aka downer but their children...it's so sad.
He was so beautiful and oh Lawd...he filled that Superman suit out well!
I need to rewrite this bloomin' post. It's annoying me. Not as much as Lois Lame annoys me. She's just so...one dimensional!! Superman does what he does for the betterment of humankind and all she wants is to get under his cape...the big selfish gripehead.
My. I'm on a roll aren't I?
yayy...thank you..I'm feeling guilty about my wee rant re VB (the Beck and Call Ham not the beer)...
Refer to above answer re bits and hoo ha's.
Goodnight my Caramella sister...have a great weekend...I will be in touch PM wise with those contacts I mentioned...hope to see you sometime over the weekend...thumps (ouch) to the heart to you my other soulgal...

You just set me off giggling every time I read one of your comments. That switching hour seems to work so well for you.
Just a shortie this time, my sweet Sis, VB (as you say, not the beer) is also a fictional character and, as such, falls outside the rules of MOSTEST.
Paris Hilton ... fictional also.
Therefore, my conclusion is simple ...
... Bitch away to your heart's content!!
Hope your sweet smelling man is feeling better.

I thought she was a particularly boring character, and it is more the conception of little Super that I would have thought would have been hard (originally I didn't intend that pun but now I am going to claim it).
I was never a huge fan of Superman (he is too super for my liking) but I agree with you. Lois only seemed interested in Clark Kent (quick review on Clark, good job, decent guy, not bad looking, a little quirky and smalltownish, would have money etc etc) when she found him to be Superman.
Dusk, full agreement.
JZ.
P.S. I quite liked Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. He was perhaps a little too manic but he was very funny and quite brilliant. And the scene where Superman deflected a bullet with his eye was cool.

sorry if you think me churlish for hijacking some attention from your blog (I am a middle child, third of six so I guess this type of behaviour is normal) but you got me thinking about who I thought was the coolest female comic character ever.

Yes, I'm glad we agree...fictional characters - ie. superstars - are free for all!
Loving it!
Completely agree with you over the Beckams....they drive me loopy.
Loving what us women all make our daughters call their 'regions'. Cha cha cracks me up (again, probably not the best way to phrase that sentence)!
And your Volvo story...absolutely priceless.
A.H...bits! Still laughing about that one!
Alright, going to go find a post where women's 'bits' aren't the hot topic...(I know I was the one who made it the hot topic, but anyway).
That's a lie, because Celebrity Fox's feature on Britney's Hoo Ha caught my eye a second ago....
And I'm going to stew over JZ (my hiphopping man)'s question....
I do love Betty, like you, Dusky D.

Have an hour 'free' while my husband and youngest watch and cackle their way through some silly movie! Good to see you.
I love love LOVE that scene!!
When I buy the DVD my youngest and I are going to replay that scene continuously (as we do the 'Matrix' scene when Neo and Trinity rescue Morpheus...way cool).
I need to modify my post because I didn't mean to imply that Clark was weak and was faulty...he is a wonderful character...beautiful in his want to be liked by everyone, he's kind and gentle and helpful and compassionate and generous and handsome too and really everything that Cal-el is...in disguise.
I hate that Lois just uses him as a doormat. Urgh. She really annoys me.
Okay JZ....am flying over to your place now...up, up and awayyyy....

Wonder why Britney is really doing the whole "set my hoo ha free" thing...I mean, why would you do this when you know that you're a back in the headlines 'celebrity' and the papparazzi follow your every move.
How will her children feel if they decide to go through a history of their mum in her younger days and come across all this stuff?

I have disliked this character since Margot Kidder went for a fly-by-night with Supe off the top of her Manhattan penthouse...I was just a girl but even then I recognised what a lame starstruck groupie she was....and how impossible it is for a newspaper journo to be earning the kind of money it takes to have a pad like that!
Yeah okay, so I go a bit stupid when I see a photo of Stephen Larkham...and let's not even talk about when I first met him...my husband was there and I am never going to live it down!...but ya know...Lois is...she's just...lame.

P.S. I love Austin Powers!!! The second one was my fav....I had the Felecity Shagwell shirt, which was actually a pajama top....but I would wear it out clubbing, to the movies, to visit my grandparents - just kidding here, I'm not that disrespectful...the slogon was 'If you can't be with the one you love, shag the one you're with.'
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha....
I loved that shirt. Finally, after like 6 years in existence (it's like some beloved pet, this shirt), there were just too many holes to wear it anymore....so it got tossed...in all truth, it got buried in the backyard.
