Tri-Nations. A ruck n roll inkblot.

I’m confused. Since when has Tri-Nations become a way to describe any ballgame tournament between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa?
Correct me someone...and I will graciously acknowledge my naivete....if I’m wrong but I thought that Tri-Nations was an actual Rugby Union sporting tournament term as in, the Rugby Union Tri Nations Series between the Wallabies, the All Blacks and the Springboks, as decided by SANZAR, the sporting governing body.
Yes okay...we can argue the point that really, Tri-Nations means just that -3 countries- and therefore can be used to describe any form of sporting tournament, combat, warfare, rivalry, contest, etc between any 3 countries in any context... and I don’t believe the name is copyrighted... according to Wikipedia, a “number of rugby football tournaments are known as the Tri-Nations”.
And that’s okay when it’s still Rugby Union we’re talking about, like the Pacific Tri-Nations for instance.
I am not being...yucchhh...elitist. I’m just protective is all, maybe a little pedantic, a little stomp-my-foot-it’s-so-not-fair girlish but....it’s supposed to be an exclusive, join the dots term. Like ‘State of Origin’.
Tri-Nations is a trademark. A written inkblot.
Tri-Nations = Rugby. Rugby Union.
Imagine the outcry if the ARU (out of touch and in the clouds but what can you do)* sent all the Queenslanders back and kept all the New South Welshman and then had a mid Super 14 match between the Qld Reds and the NSW Waratahs and called it State of Origin.
Imagine it. And cry.
What next? The Bledis-league Cup?
*just because I feel Rugby is THE sport does not mean I am blind to the stupidity.
