This is a biased look at Rugby (from a Gamma point of view...hence the fuschia) and I make no apologies for that. Go The Wallabies! Go The Brumbies!...and ouch...Stephen Larkham...

Wallabies v Wales...Tonight!

September 15th 2007 00:00
I am so sorry I haven't posted anything about and in the lead up to this match because it's HUGE.
Damn TBS. Pre-dating is such a wonderful feature.
Forget the matches that took place earlier this year in Australia...this time when these 2 teams meet...

There will be blood. Not just red either...gold...

Wallabies v Wales (team logos)

Saturday, 15 September 2007
10:30pm AEST (on Channel 10)
Pool B Cardiff

...but Houston...we have a problem.

from Rugby Heaven:

Wallabies five-eighth Stephen Larkham is in doubt for Australia's crucial group game against Wales at Millennium Stadium after injuring his knee during training on Friday.

Well no wonder if he insists on playing Rugby like this

Stephen Larkham: knee deep in misery?

Larkham was taken to hospital for MRI scans after breaking down during kicking practice at the end of the captain's run.

"It appears that he aggravated an old injury but it doesn't appear to be serious," said Wallabies coach John Connolly. "He will have a run tomorrow [Saturday] morning and then we will make a decision.

Breaking down? What is he? A truck? That doesn't kick over...?

Stephen Larkham knee-ds a miracle

Larkham with Wallabies doctor Martin Raftery on Friday. Both knees look fine to me. He's walking isn't he?

He will have treatment today, and tomorrow morning at 7.30am there will be a meeting among the coaches and selectors to discuss how he has pulled up. But he will have a run at 8am and then we'll know how he is.
"Right now he is 50-50, but if this was Thursday and he was playing on Saturday, he would be OK."

Did you get that?

If Larkham doesn't play then Berrick (not son of) Barnes will be playing at #10, which is a crime against humanity but apparently;

...even if Larkham is declared fit, the bench may still be reshuffled, with Barnes becoming the third back in the seven-man mix, with a forward dropping out.

Did you get that?

Oh boy. This really isn't good. The Wallabies have already sustained injuries and disappointments with Mark Gerrad out and Adam Ashley-Cooper injured and Lote Tuqiri still himself.

As I said...this is a huge match. And one of the few matches not played in France. This match is being played in Cardiff...the Dragons (Wales) home soil aka home advantage aka home crowd aka home NOISE.

...Rocky Elsom believes the way to contain Wales is to contain their stadium. Quieten the Millennium Stadium crowd, and Australia will be well on the way to winning tonight's crucial World Cup pool match.

"I wouldn't say playing at Millennium Stadium is daunting," Elsom said. "Instead the prospect of playing there excites a lot of blokes. It is a massive stadium, but you still feel as if everyone is right on top of you.

"It gets very loud in the stadiums in South Africa, but I have never heard anything as loud as Millennium Stadium.
"And the deck is obviously very different. It looks green, but I think that might be more paint than anything.
"It's like mud. It sort of feels like mud that has been held together by something, with little bits of grass which come out of the surface."

...the Welsh team is obviously inspired by their fans on the terraces.
"The biggest thing we encountered when we played there was the way the Welsh team rode the wave," Elsom said.

The Wallabies better dump them.

Go The Wallabies!!

That first picture is so bizarre, it totally looks as though he's in a hole.

How are you sweetie? Hope you're doing OK!

Cheers
