What's Your Guilty Pleasure?
June 14th 2007 16:04
...as I sit here eating one of my Guilty Pleasures...I am nosy curious about others Guilty Pleasures.
What are Guilty Pleasures?
....hmmm...I guess they're things you shouldn't be doing because they're not good for you...but damn they feel good!
And really...it's not that I feel guilty when I do them.
It's more that I feel guilty because I don't feel guilt. Know what I mean?
So perhaps that's a better definition of what a Guilty Pleasure is.
Something you feel no guilt doing. Though you should.
Okay...here are a few of mine...starting with the Guilty Pleasure I am indulging in now.
No.
Not indulgent posts.
AND contrary to popular belief...I am not searching the Net forLarkham Rugby photos....not tonight anyway. Besides that's not a Guilty Pleasure.
Nope. No guilt there.....
My Guilty Pleasures:
1. Okay this is really bad....and I mean...really bad. I have this thing for cream. Really thick cream. I love cream. I really really love cream. You lot are getting excited huh? sickos. This is an Immature Content post and I'd like to keep it that way thank you.
I like to fill a bowl with cream and...mix in about a tablespoon of sugar and then I eat it.
...and I've just finished it. It's way wayyy after midnight. And now you feel sick.
*****************
2. Really trashy TV...
America’s Next Top Model and Australia’s Next Top Model.
I’m not sure why but I really like watching these shows. There’s something rather endearing about these people. They’re all so delusional. They truly believe that fashion is to be taken seriously. Oh puh-lease.
Compelling viewing.
***************
3. Lists. I love lists.
This may seem like a weird thing to have as a Guilty Pleasure but when you start to make lists about what lists you need to make...well....I mean hello?...what am I doing right now??
Actually this might sit on the OCD side of the fence...
***************
4. Driving over roundabouts. When no one is around okay?
Go figure. Don't judge me. I drive a 4WD. I like to go off-road.
***************
5. Now this one...this one might really put some of you off. Hell. Maybe all of you.
My biggest Guilty Pleasure of late...of a few hours late....is trying to imagine David and Victoria Beckham with a personality.
Yep. It's hard.
Your turn.......

2> buying clothes for my girls. you can't even get into their closets, drawers and such. They even have clothes boxed in the spare bedroom, trailer and basement but i still buy more. i HAVE to have all the new styles. if i was skinny, i'd have me tons too. i LOVE clothes shopping. Such a rush i could scream with excitement walking through the amll with bags and bags of stuff we have just bought, but i want all or almost all sales. i hit every store from old navy to aerapsotle [sp!] to American Eagle, to Rue 21, hotting all the sale racks. and occasional not sale racks. i'm wayyy over the top on it. but i do use cash, not creditunless ofcourse an occasional beg to hubby when there is no cash. <grins> then i use my Kohls or FashionBug cards. dang, out of room.Shoes!!! i have brand new ones never worn. i LOVE Niki Shocks. i have like 7 that look brand new. tons of dress shoes. smelly stuff too. for the tub, for my clothes, for my house,, ,
ahhh i'm out of control. lol

stationery shopping (no, not shopping online!) I love stationery - I was beyond thrilled when I found those bendy rulers (coz I have a thing about trying to break the shatterproof ones!) and lead pencils!

We share a few guilty pleasures...I also love Australia's Top Model and other similar programs. I know it's not great and is encouraging the reality progs epidemic, but I'm addicted..ah well. I also love lists, sometimes I make lists about the lists I'm going to make. I love that. And I try and drive over as many roundabouts as I legally can.
I think my other pleasure although I don't feel that guilty about it is chocolate, especially English chocolate (seeing as I'm from there, I don't think it's racist to have a prefernce). Yummm..
Sorry this is grammatically weird but I'm on my friend's laptop trying to get used to the keys. Plus, I'm on baby duty (which I love) while she's having a nap.

Ditto to the shopping!!....except my Guilty Pleasure re shopping is
- op-shops
- massive sales
I cannot resist a sale. Especially a sale that says 50-75% off everything!!!!
I refuse to buy anything at full retail price!!!!
Good to see you Tammy...

I am sooooo with you re the stationary!!!
And funny funny funny...I was going to write that after my lists GP because I have notebooks and coloured pencils and gel pens and pretty paper and pink and blue paper clips, etc, etc....and I hardly ever use them!!
Well I do but I just like to look at all the pretty pens and pencils!
ooooh...one GP I have but it's not really a GP...more a sheepish pleasure...
I love colouring in books.
....and I use this to 'unlock' a case of writers block. It's chromatherapy!
Constant shading and use of colour 'sets' the brain straight and focuses it.
I think Wendi does this too.
Note...I can't draw! hell...I can't even draw a staright line with a bendy ruler!
...and yes yes yes to melted chocolate!!!!
MY GP re chocolate is that as much as I love the 'refined' swiss, belgium, french, gourmet chocolates (and I Love dark chocolate)...I really really love just plain ol' Cadbury's glass and a half of melted goodness!
big hugs Ash

I was just writing about Hugh Laurie on my Danny Bhoy post....Kerryn Wood is also a big fan.
Nahhh. B12 would just be too healthy....and I truly do not feel any guilt. The guilt is felt because there is no guilt!
...something that I do to alleviate any guilt I feel whilst under the affluence of incohol...not that I'm influenced in any way but...
I love Vodka with freshly squeezed orange juice, pulp and all OR with V8 hot and spicy vegetable juice.
Figure all the healthy stuff negates the alcohol!
Guilt free and good for you...cerebrally!
Good to see you

... add me to the list of list makers. I love lists with a passion. And I hate shopping (sorry shopaholics) but I do love to walk into a clothes shop and walk out no more than five minutes later with bags full of children's clothes.
I love getting new clothes for the bugs, although I must admit that the sudden empty feeling in my purse does bring on a small attack of the guilts ... momentarily.
Um ... what else ... oh yes, big bags of salt and vinegar crisps or big plates of hot chips (with salt and vinegar).
Oh and I do like to move furniture around. The rooms in our house are constantly changing, so much that I think my bloke gets a little fed up with not knowing where everything is.
Okay, I have to go and pick up Bug 1 from school soon so I'd better go, otherwise I'll be here all day.
Although (quick look at my watch) just about enough time for a plate of chips while I write yet another list.
Take care. Love Cara. xxxx

You and I? Twins.
Like Arnold and Danny in 'Twins'.
Except I'm pretty positive you're a gorgeous woman not a short rotund man...and I'd like to believe I'm as big as Arnold but...I'm about the size of his arm...!
Oh My GOD!!
We should have been discussing AusNTM!!...why does Jodhi Meares not ever wear a bra?? Why do they all like to pretend she was anything before she picked and Packer??? Why was that Paloma girl so blind to her absolute horrible-ness??? Why do we watch this bloody show???
Because it's so bad...it's gooooood!
This may sound weird and I think that maybe I am lucky in that my metabolism allows me to think this way but... I don't feel guilt when I eat anything.
I figure that a lot of energy goes into being guilty and the guilt becomes toxic and makes the energy required to digest and metabolise, all 'glurghy' and slow.
If one eats without guilt, and I suppose in moderation
(1 block of chocolate = 1 apple...that's fair...!), coupled with some exercise (walk to the bathroom every now and then)...then your body will settle into a pattern of natural metabolism NOT metabolism that goes up and down according to emotional triggers.
If you eat something you 'shouldn't be' eating...you eat it with guilt...and then you eat some more because you're feeling guilty.
...but if you eat without guilt, your mind registers this and everything flows as it should...no stops and starts.
Does that make sense? Or am i speaking out of my left nostril? Sorry...am in a bit of a rush...
Are you in Qld now hon?
Have a great time with your friend and baby...will visit you soon...great title by the way!!
much warmth

1. My ultimate guilty pleasure, sitting in the large vibrating massage chair, my feet soaking in a warm, scented whirlpool while one woman pampers my tootsies while another tends to my hands. Clean, trimmed cuticles. Callouses removed. Finely shaped nails covered with a pretty shade of blue, green, or violet I always feel just that much more confident extending a freshly manicured hand to someone. And your strappy sandals always look just that much better with feet that don’t look like they’ve been through a meat grinder (I’m a runner, so keeping my feet in order is very important).
2. A big ass box of Hot Tamale candies: Tooth-breakingly hard and jaw-fusingly dense, eating one Giant cinnamon Hot Tamale is like chewing a small hockey puck. And half of each pack is a waste: Let's face it — The impossibility of eating them makes them all the more irresistible. The cinnamon is so strong that they become their own exquisite form of torture. That just makes us want more.
3. Wham!: Seriously, what is better than a beautiful day with the windows down in the car and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” coming over the speakers? Half that CD is just pure cotton candy — it makes you sick and happy all at the same time.
I will stop there.... Dusk what a delicious post!

It's terrible, I know. Combine that with TV (another guilty pleasure most of the time..) and you get....
Countdown Shows.
I know, I'm sorry. But they are like an illicit drug. Even if I switch on to "America's top 40 sexiest Janitors with names that sound like Celebrities" half way through, I can't help watching through to #1.
I'd probably list my time here on Orble as a guilty pleasure... 9 times out of 10 I really should be spending time with my family. You know, the real world.
I think you've inspired a Daily Tube post here - stay tuned

btw, I haven't been ignoring you, honest... it's just that I was finishing off one of my ambient, long-term lists... not really a guilty pleasure though... more of a necessity...

hmmm, let me see....
NO 1 guilty pleasure atm, has to be Blogging on Orble *hanging head in shame* when like Yoda and other parents, I should be with my young padawan's, or meditating ... for shame.

Snap!! I love bouncing over roundabouts, how about that!? No 4WD, just in the old Ford... but Queensland has these lovely half flying-saucer shaped ones that you can traverse.. ha ha ha
Books, Books, Books ... and did I mention books - on Anthropolgy, Religious texts, Theology, Sociology, Phenomenology, Ancient history... Oh Somebody Stop Me!
Tarot Card Decks, lots and lots of them...only use one main deck in my *other* profession {wink} ... but I just love the artwork on them, especially the Angel ones, and Gothic ones, and Faeries realms, the Egyptian ones; ooh don't forget the Celtic ones... then there's the Nordic Tarot, the Runic Tarot and The European Gypsy Cards, the American Animal Healing Deck, the Medicine Woman deck, the Philosophers Deck.. the .. well, you get the picture...
See if you can stop yourself when as old as me, you be .. Hrgmm

I should have included massages as a GP...although it is a neccessity because a lifetime of throwing the body around as if I was Jaime Sommers!... especially foot massages...I could have these every day all day but...we're talking Chinese reflexology torture, with sharp bamboo shoots dug into pressure points...oh yum!

So did you watch that '20-1' series???
...I did...couldn't help myself...
Orble as Guilty Pleasure....hmmmm....
...but I do understand...for me, the guilt stems from the fact that I should be working instead of Orbling and it's a double guilt because I have the luxury of working from home...and I just took a call from a colleague and said I was busy 'researching' something and he interrupted my 'flow'.
Sheesh. I hope he doesn't read this!

I was just being slightly naughty...that "last one" actually 'inspired' this post...
Anyway.
I was Orbling and DDH called out to me to come and be with him for a while (because he'd been away all week)and I said to him;
"Hang on honey, not now...I'm writing about how wonderful it is to be with you."
As soon as I said it...I stopped. And hung my head in shame.
Now I very rarely Orble on weeknds and if I do it's because they're all cooking!
I guess blogging is a form of meditation. Or mediation.
...and if you weren't blogging, you'd be writing anyway...right?
Ohhhhhh books......major pleasure...which then became a source of guilt for me.
I can't throw books out. I had to stop buying them. Books and boots. They started taking over the house.
I go to the library now. For books.
The boots...well...
I love your Tarot Decks!
