Who would you be for a day?
October 16th 2006 12:05
Okay, this is not a rugby specific post because I do have other interests other than rugby...besides it is officially the off-season now...in Australia.
I’m about to post an interview on the person I consider to be The Ultimate Sports Person. Naturally he plays Rugby. Unfortunately, he’s a Back.
Backs exist because the Forwards allow them to do so. And someone has to carry the combs.
However, this Rugby Legend has the heart of a Forward and because he’s brilliant and a yo-yo, I would love to be him, just for a day, when he’s on fire against the All Blacks. Like the time, World Cup ’03 semi final, when he whupped Carlos Spencer’s ass...
Which leads me to this...I have previously mentioned the various personalities I wish I could be, which makes me sound like I have an identity crisis.
Nay Good Reader, tis not crisis...I am very happy being Me...I don’t know how to be anyone else. I’m a Gamma Type. No jealousy involved, no coveting, just curiosity. What would it feel like to run in their boots? Just for one day, I'd like to be:-
- a combination of Marilyn vos Savant (however questionable her real IQ is, it’s still up there) and a pre Botox Cindy Crawford.
- Lara Croft but my cups do not runneth over... oh...she's not real?
- Dr Fiona Wood...but damn, sugar, she’s a Saint.
- Carl Sagan but he’s umm...dead.
Most of all, just for one day, I want to be my husband because he is the most capable, compassionate, loving and intelligent human I know, there’s nothing he can’t do and he used to be a Rugby Forward...a Prop...the toughest of the tough.
But I can’t be him because he’s my husband and it all just starts to get too weird.
Who would you be for a day and why?

Would also LOVE to be Ian Paice (Drummer - Deep Purple)playing "Black Night" or Cindy Blackman...this woman is too TOO cool.
ps. I can only just play 'Take 5' (Weather Report) but I play mean air drums!

And considering you haven't put any other time constraints on the question other than ' a day' ... '
I'd like to be everyone that every tasted glory and defeat at the highest level ...
So at 12.00 midnight I'd like to be Christ Himself, in the Garden of Gethsemane when He stood up to his persecutors and said, "I'ts me you are looking for." (without any support from his forwards or backs) ...
At 3.00am I'd like to be Christ again, when He was confronted by the Sanhedrin and grilled (more than any rugby player has ever been grilled by his coach or selectors), and He said nothing, because His performances on the field spoke for themselves.
At 6.00am I'd like to be Christ again, because he was brought out to be scourged (an no rugby league player ever went through a pre-season training like that one for the big event).
And I'm not having a go at you or your husband ... I'm just making the point that glory is relative to what you compare it to ...
I could go on, but I've made my point ...
I'll finish with ...
The best part would be showing the other players the wounds you received during the grand final ... but in a glorified state ... not in bloodbath fashion ... (but that belongs to the next 24 hours ) ...

I think that, relatively speaking, everyone has tasted glory and defeat at their individual highest level...in one way or another.
Tis not our place to judge another's idea or ideal of glory...
As for relative comparison's...don't we compare what we know best, to what we would like to
know most?
Umm...it is said that rugby is the game they play in Heaven....Rugby Union NOT league.
Thanks Homer.
Get this...after posting a comment on your site, I was going to comment on my site, to my question, "Who would..." -
"I'd like to be Homer for a day...his posts are bloody popular!!"
Ahhh glory...

Helmut Lang - genius but I don't know who Martin Margiela is.
I'm curious, not because I don't understand but because divinity is a sacred thing for me and cleanliness is the only way I wish to aspire to Godliness!!
Homer too wants to be Jesus. But I think he was just trying to 'make a point'.
Why would you like to be Jesus for a day? What would you do? Would you do anything differently?

I am so misunderstood not just as myself but as Christ ..
Can anyone recommend a good psych blog?

"Osama Osama Were art thou Osama?"
"I'm John Doe for a day"
..he should be so lucky!
Interesting choices. BUT what if you find out that Osama has a conscience and Dubya has a brain??
This would be shocking. No...I couldn't live with it.
Hmm...didn't address this much before...would we all still be ourselves in another's body?
Would you still be the brain, heart and soul of John Doe in Dubya's body (shudder)? Would you still have control over the essential you? And would you still shag Mrs Dubya?
If yes, you would still be you...you might get the world to like and respect you (as Dubya) and that would be a very bad thing.
Thanks JD (may I call you JD?).
Umm...that photo on your homepage? Nice.

Im sure Osama has a conscience and is certainly not a one dimensional symbol of evil, thats what makes me curious to walk in his shoes. Hitler and Stalin would be another pair that i would love to understand through assimulation.
As for dubbya, its not so much the lack of IQ as the fact he is merly a figurehead puppet working for big bussiness. Ignorant to much of what happens around him, i would love to know if he just gets a billion dollar cheque each week from OPEC or if he really is contributing to these corporate ideas for ruling the world.

Does this make any sense at all?
Absolutely. I agree about "...not a one dimensional symbol of evil". After all, he and his ilk, including Dubya, were once loved babies, the apple of their parents eye...before they became the proverbial rotten one in the barrel...
...Dubya is the Puppet...and Daddy's Puppet-Master...
I had originally typed 'Hot' but didn't know how that would read or be read. No need to comment on this, I'm not being flirty, just candid.

I find myself addicted to being here sometiems too.
Totally agree the joy is in using your own uncensored voice, obviously we are both restricted when writing for publications but here you can vent and begin to find a style all your own.
Better still its instant gratification, you type, you create, hit a button and your on the web for all to see.
Nice to see Im not the only one.
On the GB and Osama tip, Im just fascinated with what makes people who they become and how a moral compass can be so screwed up you become a pedophile, serial killer or fascist dictator who executes with extreme predjudice etc
Its so far removed from what I have seen and experienced in real life that it fascinates me and also helps me understand myself in the context of us being another member of the animal kingdom. the human mind is a fragile thing, so many break and destruction ensues.

I'd also like to be Craig Bolton's (Sydney Swans defender) girlfriend for a day. Don't even know if he has one, but if he does please let me be her. Just for a day.

No worries about not seeing my comment. It was just a wee one! I should have said what I meant...I would not have made proclamations of virginity... *smile*
I am completely fascinated by her. I think my favorite portrayal of her life so far is Elizabeth with Cate Blanchet. Stunning performance. After I seen it, I went on an Elizabethean feast! Read everything I could get my hands on about her, members of her court, both favorable and not so favorable. I am minoring in history because of her. She turned me on to history...what can I say? I just think of what she accomplished during that time...as a woman. It boggles the mind, really.
So glad to hear from you, my favorite Lady,
Voices~

You're turning me on to herstory...!! My interest has been aroused now...
giggle...sorry was channeling Homer and wrote what he might have said...
Yes, you're right...she was an incredible woman and is an exemplary role model relative to the times.
I believe Cate Blanchett is currently donning her Virgin Queen robes for 'Elizabeth' the sequel.
